The
stereotypical image of India- the land of the majestic Taj
Mahal, the land of Snake Charmers and the land of the
legendary Bengal Tiger- is fading, inevitably being
transposed by that of a modem and burgeoning consumer
society. Today’s India is an awakening giant ready to
reclaim its rightful position in the evolving but ironically
shrinking global bazaar.
No
wonder it is a paradox- such a uniquely distinctive bipolar
divide, where an overwhelmingly large proportion of the
consuming population is at sub-poverty level, yet co-exists
with an equally sizable urban and affluent counterpart.
It
is actually the third largest economy in the world, if
measured in terms of purchasing power parity (and the
twelfth from the top; otherwise).
According
to the latest IDBI source data, India born IT professionals
and engineers contribution to revolutionary growth the
information technology has been recorded second only to that
of United States’. Over seven hundred publicly traded
Information Technology corporations, a considerable part of
the glitterati of Silicon Valley, have been founded by
engineers of Indian origin.
